The Essence of the Lusitano

Our first encounter with Portugal’s living heritage begins at the Castle of Monsaraz, a National Monument of Portugal. Following our riders, magnificent in their traditional Portuguese attire, photographers trace a winding course through narrow, cobblestone streets, flanked by colourful local houses and historic architecture until the group reaches the main arena, nestled within the ancient castle walls. Here, in this space filled with centuries of character,  History comes alive as cameras struggle to contain the sheer spectacle of riders, horses, and living history in every frame.

Savouring the echoes of time

Brace yourself for a moment of pure spectacle. Watching a herd of exquisitely bred mares thundering across the ground and galloping straight at the group is an experience that instantly takes your breath away. Documenting every fraction of a second of this glorious, rhythmic migration — from the safety of the stables out to the vast fields — is so awe-inspiring that it will be etched into memory forever.

Just when you think the day can't get any better, you are swept away to a setting of contrasting luxury. The afternoon is dedicated to fine dining and sumptuous surroundings. We visit the magnificent Torre de Palma Wine Hotel, where a gourmet meal awaits. This five-star experience includes a special tour, allowing us to delve into the rich history and culture woven into the walls of this stunning estate.

As the evening unfolds with a shared meal, local wine, and the laughter of new friendships becomes part of the memory. This is where the Cavago experience truly reveals itself.

Switching roles, from Photographers to Tourists

To reset and recharge, we replace the equine action for a day trip to Lisbon, the breathtaking "city of seven hills." Guided by local experts, the group explores the city's unique charm and also visits the prestigious Portuguese School of Equestrian Art.

Driving to prominent locations in Lisbon and taking guided walks in the areas, we capture horses, architecture, food, and the vibe of the city alongside Scott’s intuition and insight. This cultural interlude provides the perfect, enriching break needed between photographic shoots and locations.

A Grand Finale

And grand it is, indeed. The tour culminates in a private, unforgettable spectacle: an exclusive demonstration of Lusitano riding mastery by Olympic champion, Gilberto Filipe. The atmosphere is electric, filled with thrilling anticipation as Gilberto trots into the arena. Then, a prop is dramatically released, marking the start of a show designed solely for our cameras.
